Show People, Don’t Tell Them.
Over the years, I’ve learned that it’s best to keep your goals close to your heart. If you truly want something, work on it in silence. Show up for yourself every day. Try to be better than you were yesterday. Then, when it’s ready, go ahead and tell the world. Proudly market what you’ve built—but let your results do the talking.
The Power of Keeping Quiet
When I was 25, I started telling a few people about my business plan to open a smoothie and health food store. Some doubted me. I remember every single one of them.
The truth is, it’s easy to talk about dreams. It feels good to say them out loud. But did you know that simply telling people your goals has been proven to release dopamine prematurely? It gives you a false sense of achievement—before you’ve done the work. And that can kill motivation.
That’s why I encourage you to share your goals only with those who will keep you accountable—people who will push you forward, not hold you back.
Guard Your Energy
Outside energy can throw your goals off. Some people will point out every possible reason why it won’t work. And when you inevitably hit moments of doubt, those voices will creep in again.
Your brain is wired to protect you, to keep you safe and comfortable. But growth requires discomfort. The bigger the dream, the bigger the test.
Why People Doubt You
I’ve come to realize that many of the people who doubted my first venture weren’t doubting me—they were projecting their own fears. They didn’t have the courage to chase their own dreams, so they couldn’t imagine me chasing mine.
That’s why I promised myself I would never be that person. I love hearing people’s dreams, but I need to see a follow through. I encourage you to go after what lights you up, because that’s where you’ll do your best work.
The average person works 40 to 45 years in their lifetime. The more you enjoy what you do, the happier your life will be. And if you’re on the wrong path? It’s never too late to change direction.
Action Step: Show Them
Here’s what I’ve learned: It’s better to show people than to tell them.
Actions speak louder than words. When you walk into a room, you won’t need to explain yourself—because your work will do it for you.
So, find something you desire. Write it down. Make a plan. Get to work.
Let the process give you purpose.
When the time is right… show them.
