Reflections on 2024: 5 Powerful Lessons to Start Your Week
I want to start by thanking every single person who subscribes to Monday Mindset. Every time I see a response or a new subscriber, it truly fires me up and motivates me to put more effort into these newsletters.
2024 has been a year of change, reflection, and growth. As many of you know, I sold my first business earlier this year, relocated to Vancouver Island, and for the first time in 10 years, I found myself with time capital.
As I adjusted to this slower pace, it was challenging to embrace the calm I had worked so hard to create. I realized I thrive on production and impact, and without those constant markers of progress, I sometimes felt lost. There were moments of doubt, especially when I didn’t see immediate results with my new business.
As the year comes to a close, I’m embracing this slower period in my life. Things won’t always be this way, and I’ll likely look back on this chapter with a sense of nostalgia. What I’m most proud of, however, is showing up for myself and my partner every single day. We’ve prioritized peace, health, and happiness, and those buckets are at an all-time high.
This has given me the space to dive deeper into thought, plan my next steps, and be intentional with my time and energy moving forward.
In this Monday Mindset, I’m sharing 10 lessons from 2024, divided into two parts for clarity:
Part 1: Personal growth and mindset (below)
Part 2: Relationships, energy, and action (coming December 23rd).
I hope these lessons add value as you wrap up your year!
Prioritize Your Peace
Peace has brought me clarity, happiness, calm, productivity, health, and energy. By prioritizing my peace, I ensure that I bring my best self to each and every day.
When I protect my inner calm, I create space for growth, meaningful connections, and a life aligned with my purpose. Peace isn’t just a state; it’s a choice, and I will continue to choose it above all else.
Reps Remove Doubt
Doubt is a natural protective mechanism, rooted in your brain’s instinct to focus on potential risks. This survival instinct can often lead to hesitation, especially in uncertain situations. The antidote? Action.
Every rep you take chips away at doubt and builds your confidence. By intentionally taking action—whether it's waking up on time or dedicating an hour to your goals—you prove to your brain that you're capable. The more you act, the less space doubt has to grow.
Trust Your Gut
Your gut feeling is a powerful compass, shaped by your subconscious knowledge and past experiences. It often knows what’s best for you, even when your mind overthinks or your heart pulls you in another direction. When something feels right, trust yourself to lean in fully. If it doesn’t, honour that feeling and have the courage to make a change.
Self-Talk Is the Most Important Conversation You’ll Ever Have
The human brain generates thousands of thoughts each day, and it’s our job to decide which ones to give power. In 2024, I’ve embraced solitude to reflect on how I speak to myself, intentionally challenging negative thoughts. When I notice limiting beliefs, I shift my focus toward growth and possibility. Your self-talk shapes everything, from your confidence to your ability to take action.
Plan in 5 and 10 Year Windows
One of my early mentors at Purpose emphasized the power of thinking in 5 and 10-year windows. At 27, I didn’t fully grasp it, but looking back, seven years flew by. Now, I see how valuable that advice really is. Ten years ago, I was backpacking through Europe, living in the moment, unaware that the next decade would bring profound challenges and growth. Since then, I lost my mom, ran 5 marathons, raised over $100k for cancer research, started and sold a business, and built a new one.
For the first time in years, I’ve had the time and space to reflect on where I want to be in the next 5 and 10 years. Breaking goals into these windows allows you to see bigger opportunities you might otherwise miss. Stay tuned for the next 5 and 10 years—because I’m thinking bigger.
As we wrap up 2024, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on your own growth and the lessons you’ve learned this year. Embrace the slower periods, trust your intuition, and remember that progress is not always immediate.
I’d love to know—what resonated most with you from this part of the lessons? Are there any lessons you’d like to share? Let me know—I’m always inspired by your thoughts.
I’m excited to share Part 2 with you next Monday, where we’ll dive into relationships, energy, and taking action. Until then, I hope these lessons inspire you as you close out the year and look ahead to the next chapter.
Wishing you peace, health, and happiness as you step into 2025.
